History
One of the 51 Shakti Peeths where the forehead of Sati is believed to have fallen. The temple was established by Pandit Mai Das, a Saraswat Brahmin, over 700 years ago after the goddess appeared in his dream.
Architecture
White-domed sanctum with a silver-plated inner shrine. The main deity is a pindi (rounded stone) representing the headless form of the goddess.
Mythology & Legend
Chinnamastika, one of the ten Mahavidyas, is depicted holding her own severed head — symbolising self-sacrifice and control over desire. Devotees believe she removes worries (chinta = worry, purni = fulfiller).
