Khajjiar meadow
1.5 km grassland with a floating pond at 1,950 m — surrounded by deodar forest. Zorbing, horse rides, and Kailash range views. 24 km from Dalhousie.

Dalhousie was built by the British for their generals. Chamba was ruled for 1,000 years by its own Rajput kings. Together they give you Victorian-era hill architecture, 8th-century stone temples, and Khajjiar — the meadow Indians call 'Mini Switzerland' without a hint of irony.
Chamba town sits above the Ravi river with 1,000-year-old stone temples that nobody photographs. Dalhousie sits on five hills above it, all with British-era church-and-mall high streets that Shimla lost 40 years ago. In between: Khajjiar's meadow and the drive to Kalatop pine forests.

The Lakshmi Narayan complex (10th century) is six shikhara temples in one courtyard. Free entry, working temples, no crowds.
St John's Church, GPO, Subhash Baoli, Panjpula falls — all connected by cedar-lined mall roads with almost no traffic.
8 km from Dalhousie. Deodar-oak-rhododendron forest, Himalayan black bear, langur troops. Trek from Lakkarmandi 5 km.
Chamba's own royal art collection — 17th–19th century Kangra and Basholi miniature paintings, Chamba rumal, and stone sculptures.
65 km from Chamba — 84 temples, 7th century Chaurasi complex, and the trek to sacred Manimahesh Lake (Aug–Sep only).
Chamba was founded in 920 AD and ruled by the same dynasty for over 1,000 years — one of the oldest continuous kingdoms in India. Dalhousie was carved out in 1854 by Lord Dalhousie as a British summer retreat. Both towns still show their bones.
Chamba's Minjar Mela (July-August, 7 days of processions and folk music) and the Sui Mata festival are Himachal's most photogenic non-touristy festivals. The Chamba rumal (embroidered handkerchief) is a GI-tagged textile older than Kashmir shawls.
The Ravi valley runs from the Bara Bhangal glacier down through Chamba to the plains. Dalhousie sits on five ridges — Kathlog, Potreyn, Tehra, Bakrota, Bhangora — each with its own colonial mansion and cedar-forest walking trail.
Only Himalayan destination with a 1,000-year-old temple complex (Lakshmi Narayan), a 100-year-old British mall town (Dalhousie), and a meadow (Khajjiar) with its own free-roaming horse fair — all within 25 km.
Skip the tourist stops. Walk the Bakrota Round (5 km cedar loop), stay in Khajjiar rest-house (₹1,500 with meadow view), drive out to Kalatop wildlife sanctuary at dawn, and see the Bhuri Singh Museum's miniature paintings.
