India's two most-searched 'snow points'. Both crowded, both touristy — but very different in what they actually deliver.
2,720 m, 16 km from Shimla. Yak rides, zorbing. Snow Dec–Feb but often melts by afternoon.
2,560 m, 13 km from Manali. Skiing, paragliding, cable car. Snow Dec–Mar, deeper and longer-lasting.
| Criterion | Kufri | Solang Valley |
|---|---|---|
| Altitude | 2,720 m | 2,560 m |
| From nearest hub | Shimla · 45 min | Manali · 30 min |
| Snow reliability | Dec–mid Feb (patchy) | Dec–mid Mar (deep) |
| Skiing | Basic slopes only | Proper 500m runs + instructors |
| Paragliding | No | Yes (₹1,800–3,500) |
| Ropeway | Nearby Jakhoo yes; Kufri no | Solang Ropeway to Mt. Phatru, ₹500 |
| Zorbing / snow tubing | Yes | Yes |
| Horse/yak ride pressure | Very high — pushy operators | High but more organised |
Higher precipitation, deeper snowfall, better retention. Kufri snow often disappears by 2 pm.
Paragliding + skiing on the same slope + ropeway. Kufri is essentially yak-rides and photos.
Gentler slopes, closer to Shimla, easier day trip if you're not staying overnight.
If Solang lacks snow, drive through Atal Tunnel to Sissu — near-guaranteed snow even in poor years.
