About Bir for 2026 — Paragliding Capital

Bir is India's paragliding capital — the world championship has flown here twice — and a Tibetan monastic town wrapped around the same landing meadow. Where you stay decides whether you're first on the shuttle to Billing in the morning or first at the café afterwards. Our shortlist splits into two clusters: the Chaugan landing-site stretch (walk to your landing) and the Colony/monastery side (quieter, cafés).

Why choose this destination

  • One of the world's top-rated paragliding sites — season Oct–Nov and Mar–Jun.
  • Sherab Ling and Chokling monasteries — active Tibetan Buddhist centres.
  • Excellent café scene: June 16, Silver Linings, Garden Café.
  • Base for a stunning Bir → Billing → Barot circuit.
  • Direct road access from Baijnath, near Kangra Valley toy train.
