The mountains punish auto-mode. These are field-tested starting settings for full-frame or crop sensors.

Snow landscapes

Meter for snow +1.3 to +1.7 EV. ISO 100. Aperture f/8-f/11. Fast shutter 1/250 or higher. WB Daylight.

Sunrise valley shots

ISO 200, f/8, shutter varies — start 1/125. Use graduated ND if sky blows out.

Waterfalls (silky effect)

ISO 100, f/11-16, shutter 1-4 seconds. ND filter 6-stop needed in daylight. Tripod mandatory.

Milky Way (Spiti)

ISO 3200-6400, f/2.8, shutter 15-20 seconds. Manual focus at infinity. Best months Apr-Oct new moon.
